This is some great footage. Props to the crew and editors.

Europe’s oldest snowboard contest, the Champs Leysin had a cloudy start during the semi finals. But for the finals the unique slopestyle parcours waited for the best 6 women and the 12 best men with perfect conditions. This 5 Star World Snowboard Tour contest combines two Olympic formats in one course. In addition to the classicslopestyle parts the riders had to face a half pipe. This unparalleled combination of two Olympic formats was special for the riders and the thrilled spectators too.

Slopestyle will be a part of the Olympic Games Program 2014 in Sochi for the first time and the riders showed impressively how much it means to compete there. They knew how to convince the jury with tricks like double backflips and Switch Backside Double Cork 1080.

Janne Korpi from Finland triumphed at the Men’s Competition with an astonishing second run of 94.25 points, picked with Tricks like the Switch Backside 1080 Mute.Spencer Link and Scott Moline, both from the USA, followed on the places two and three.

At the Women’s final the US-girls dominated the competition and sweep the podium. The 16 year old Ty Walker won and Jordie Karlinski finished 2nd followed by Phoebe Novello.

Despite recorded storm-force gusts of up to 74 knots (137kmh) and fierce 20-ft waves, after possibly the most radical day in windsurfing history the top 6 surfers move on to the second mission. It were Victor Fernandez (ESP), Thomas Traversa (FRA), Julien Taboulet (FRA), Robby Swift (GBR), Marcillio Browne (BRA) and Dany Bruch (GER) who showed the best overall impression displaying superior wave selection and super high aerials. These six now get to wait for the next big storm to hit until March 22. The four best riders of the second round advance to the third mission scheduled from 22nd July onwards. The winner of the third and final Red Bull Storm Chase mission will then be crowned the “king of the storm chase”. © Red Bull Media House

I have written about this movie before, but if you missed it or haven't seen it in a while, this video from Outside television does it good justice.

Some may say it was a set-up. Others, like myself know better. Yup, Travis Rice wins the first ever Red Bull Supernatural and does it in style. And who better to take the prize of Numero Uno. If you've been paying attention to snowboarding then you know who the Best Freakin Snowboarder on the Planet is. Not just my opinion but fact.

Check local listings to watch the whole thing go down on March 31st 2012.

And you have to admit, Shaun White is at the top when it comes to the Superpipe. Many times I have stood at the bottom of the Pipe in Park City and watched the riders Kill it on one of the best Half Pipes in the U.S. It never stops blowing me away when you see the practice rounds go down and notice that there's one Guy that gets out of the Pipe farther than anyone else, you know it's Shaun White. Lately it seems Shaun has taken it to the next level with the stuff he's throwing down in the Pipe. I'm a big fan of X-Games and look forward to both summer and winter X. This year was no different, culminating with the last event on Sunday night, the Superpipe. As the competition unfolds it's clear who's going to dominate. With 1 run left, and the Gold metal rapped up Shaun White rolls into the pipe for his third and final victory run. And what a victory run it was. But, on his last trick it is clear that he drags a hand on the pipe as he lands, and it almost looks like both hands give the wall a touch. As the judges tally up the score the usual hugs and high fives go down in the white camp, escalating to total insanity when it is announced that his score is the mother of all achievements, a Perfect 100!
Now I can see in the heat of the moment, thinking for a second that this run is a perfect score, but I think giving the Holiest of Holy's is a stretch with a touch on a landing. Sooner or later in any sport the best of the best put it all together for one amazing series of things that reward them with the highest possible score. I don't think this is it.
You should watch the video and decide for yourself. Pay close attention on the last trick as he lands and gives the wall a touch. Perfect? Really? I don't know. But still Amazing!

Where I live, I'm land locked. The closest I come to surfing is riding the White Wave on a Sick powder day. (which I just did on a 40 inch epic weekend here in Utah!!!) This is why I slacked a little on the posts but Bam, here we go with a take on surfboard shaping and what it entails. I'm intrigued by the pure love that surfers have for their sport. As with what I do, they live to ride and ride to live. But, when you take a look at the behind the scenes stuff of what happens when a surfboard is born you realize the true passion of surfboard shaping and surfing itself.

Red Bull, Travis Rice and the rest of the crew are bringing the Supernatural to network tv for your viewing pleasure.

Here is a discription from the Red Bull site:

Snowboarding legend Travis Rice spent most of his past winters travelling around the globe in the search of the best natural features to perform his breathtaking snowboarding stunts, as one can witness in his latest movie The Art of Flight. For Red Bull Supernatural it was time to switch the strategy and all the preparation and work for this unique snowboarding competition was done during the summer time. The outcome is an ultimate backcountry snowboarding course with more than 100 man-made features located at the Baldface Lodge, Nelson, BC. From February 3-8, 18 of the world’s best snowboarders will be able to ride this dream come true during Red Bull Supernatural…

The action sports community keeps gaining more traction as the athletes, filmers and producers go to amazing lengths to bring us awe inspiring and breathtaking films that, just a few years ago were totally unattainable. The cinematography alone has seen huge gains as they push the boundaries of all types of sport and bring us to locations that will blow you away. From turquoise waters to the highest peaks and everything in between, the industry has made it possible through sponsors and partners for us, the public to be there with them and join in the experience.

This year, the best film went to "All.I.Can." a ski film that, if you have not seen it I suggest you do. Here is a description from the x-dance site:

"An unparalleled cinematic experience: All.I.Can is a stunning exploratory essay that compares the challenges of big mountain skiing to the challenges of global climate change. Shot over 2 years on 5 continents using state of the art camera equipment, the world's best skiers deliver inspirational performances while All.I.Can expands our vision of the natural world. Experience the majesty of Morocco's desert peaks, Greenland's icy fjords, Chile's volcanic craters, Alaskan spine walls, and more. Join the revolution and revel in one of the most spectacular and thematically captivating films ever created in the action sports genre."

And, this year the Lifetime Achievement Award went to iconic surf film maker Jack McCoy. Since the early 70's Jack has been documenting surf in amazing fashion. His "Deeper Shade of Blue" shows that fact.

Description:

"A Deeper Shade Of Blue" is not a surf movie, it is a film about surfing’s deepest roots: in the subconscious; in ancient lore; in the craft of surfboard building; in man’s perpetual quest for a joyful relationship with the natural world.

In eleven interwoven chapters, today’s leading surfers are linked to those who came before, for a deeper appreciation of what it means to be a surfer and the soulful underlying power of modern surf culture.

This is a big picture of a memorable story, beautifully told. It is a film about feeling good to be alive…and it will make you feel good and especially proud to be a surfer."

We want to thank everyone at x-dance for having us, and letting our crew cover all the action up-front and personal. Ann Wycoff, Brian Wimmer and Eric Barrett have always been such awesome hosts.

Thanks Guys, from all The Real Outside crew.
